Mohamed Salah Hamed Mahrous Ghaly was born on June 15, 1992, in the small village of Nagrig in the Gharbia governorate of Egypt. Growing up in a modest family, young Mohamed would travel 4-5 hours each way by bus just to attend football training in Cairo.
His dedication was extraordinary - he would often miss school trips and social events to focus on his football dream. This incredible work ethic and determination would become the foundation of his legendary career.
Salah started his professional career at El Mokawloon in Egypt, where he quickly caught the attention of European scouts with his electrifying pace and clinical finishing. His performances earned him a move to FC Basel in Switzerland in 2012.
At Basel, Salah announced himself on the European stage with stunning performances in the Champions League, notably scoring against Chelsea - the club that would soon sign him.
In 2014, Chelsea signed Salah for Β£11 million. However, he struggled for playing time under JosΓ© Mourinho and was loaned to Fiorentina and then Roma. It was at Roma where Salah truly flourished, scoring 34 goals in two seasons and becoming one of Serie A's most exciting players.
In 2017, Liverpool paid a then club-record Β£36.9 million for Salah. What followed has been nothing short of legendary. In his debut season, he scored 44 goals, breaking the Premier League record for most goals in a 38-game season.
Under JΓΌrgen Klopp, Salah has won the Champions League (2019), the Premier League (2020), and established himself as one of the greatest players in Liverpool's illustrious history. He continues to break records and inspire fans around the world.
Mo Salah's influence extends far beyond the pitch. Studies have shown that hate crimes in Liverpool dropped by 16% after his arrival, and Islamophobic hate crimes fell by 50%. He has donated millions to his hometown in Egypt, building schools, hospitals, and infrastructure.
"I always want to be the best version of myself. I want to inspire people from my country, from Africa, and from around the world. If I can show that someone from a small village in Egypt can become one of the best players in the world, then anything is possible."
